Difficult changes - My first class as a Teacher

As the title suggests, my experience about being a teacher is narrated here. I must emphasize the fact that, despite it was my first time working (especially as a teacher), I didn't chicken out. I simulated a face of an experienced teacher and cope with it. I enjoyed writing about this because it remembered me to my first class, it wasn't too bad, nor the best, but I felt such a relief knowing that I had taught a real class, we all start somewhere, don't we?

MY FIRST CLASS AS A TEACHER - Reflection

It's known that being a teacher is a very important and responsible profession because every detail matters, from your vocal tone and self-assured presence, to even your upright posture; this helps you to demonstrate to the students who is the one in the top of the hierarchy into the class.

From my point of view, people tend to create this slightly, idealized concept of the teacher who is always to educate the students, and that's partially true, but education is formed both from home to school. We teachers can't and shouldn't do parent's job, we are to guide them to learn in a moral, ethic way, if in their homes they are not educated, they will be mad at us as if we were such strict demons, and, for consequence, they won't pay attention to the teacher, neither to the class. The point is the possible danger of children raised without values.

By that stated, it allows me to talk about my own experience when I taught my first English class at 18 years old. The workplace in question was considerably near of my house, so there was no problem at all when commuting from point A to point B. There was the teacher introducing me to the whole class, I can clearly remember the feeling of nervousness, getting all those looks; my mind had rewound my father's words: "When hesitating, son, put a poker face and keep going; self-confidence is the key.", obviously this works only when you know the basics of what you're doing.

Anyways, it's easier when you're speaking in front of the class as a student than a teacher, the role conveys responsibility, classroom management, making your speech clear, polite, and understandable, and overall, avoiding confusion in the information you give. It´s easy to me teaching kids because we get along each other, but I must put a limit in friendliness, I am the teacher and they must know the hierarchy, my "child-heart perk" makes me listen to the kids actively giving me more advantage with them.

My conclusion about this is the following, as a teacher, try to practice your dialogues before any class, this helps you to not hesitate in whatsoever situation. Try to think about possible questions from the students and ask them to yourself. I can confirm that, speaking in English is a challenge as a non-native speaker, but now try to speak in English as a teacher, it's very different, you must possess a wide knowledge about words and their correct usage, I don't know, even you could get interested in learning more words! It happens to me...
