ENVIRONMENTAL CITIZENSHIP - Essay

In this one, we students previously had a meeting with professors and a sort of manager about this. We were assigned to research and read about environmental citizenship to understand what it is, and what it involves. Based on that, we prepared a critical explanation each about what we thought, its drawbacks and any proposal in mind and even a friend of mine came back to my mind, it worked for me to give an example as a resolution. Plus, my speech had to last between five or eight minutes. I tried to keep in mind that what I was planning to say will be as important as the way you express it. I couldn't articulate a word well because of the lack of complete confidently. This assignment made me feel a little bit stressed, but when I read it... looks good enough to me.

ENVIRONMENTAL CITIZENSHIP - Writing essay

/ɪnˌvaɪrənˈment(ə)l ˈsɪtəzənʃɪp/ it refers to the commitment and responsibility of individuals as citizens to promote environmental sustainability by actively participating in the care of the environment at personal, community, and global levels.

It is a concept that combines rights and duties toward the natural environmental, emphasizing the importance of acting consciously to protect natural resources and ensure a sustainable future. The main characteristics of Environmental Citizenship are:

- Personal and collective responsibility: It involves recognizing how individual actions impact the environment and adopting responsible habits, such as reducing consumption, recycling and supporting sustainable practices.

- Active participation: Environmental citizens not only make personal changes, but also engage in community movements, awareness campaigns, and make informed decisions, such as voting for political leaders who prioritize ecological practices.

- Environmental education: Knowledge is key for citizens to understand global challenges, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, and to act accordingly.

- Focus on environmental justice: It considers equity in the distribution of resources and environmental impact, advocating for vulnerable communities facing ecological crises.

- Rights and duties: It recognizes everyone's right to live in a healthy environment, but also their duty to protect and preserve it for future generations.

In Germany, they have a strictly behavior towards the healthy environment and we should learn more about them. Being less consumers, recycle more, even spread the word to relatives, to coworkers, to the whole community. If we stand pragmatic that is the reason why this is called "environmental" because all of us are involved in this, or at least we should be.

I mentioned that Germany has a posture on this, actually, a fun fact is they have a specific word which doesn't exist in any other language, it's unique of them: "Umweltbewusstsein". Instead of breaking down each word of this, let's just say that means: "Environmental or ecological awareness". This is pretty good. I used to have a friend who twice in my life scolded me for not throwing the litter into the garbage can and she asked me if I hadn't never heard about such long word. Anyways, she politely asked me to be more conscious on this ecological issue, and even more important, to spread the word with anyone, I think I'm doing it quite good in this reflection...
